A glossary of mathematics terms
Mathematics has its own vocabulary. C3NTR's glossary holds the terms in one place: the technical names, your school's definitions, and the article each term appears in.
- Variable
- A letter or symbol that stands in for a number whose value is not yet specified.
- Equation
- A mathematical statement that two expressions have the same value, written using an equals sign.
- Theorem
- A mathematical statement that has been proven true from previously established facts.
- Axiom
- A statement assumed to be true without proof, used as a starting point for a mathematical system.
- Proof
- A logical argument that demonstrates a mathematical statement is true with certainty, by reasoning from axioms and previously proved theorems.
- Conjecture
- A mathematical statement that is believed to be true but has not yet been proven.

Yes. The starter is curriculum neutral. AQA, Edexcel, OCR can adapt without rewriting.
Can my school customise the mathematics template?

How long does it take to set up?
