Accessibility
3 min readC3NTR works with the accessibility features built into your iPhone. This guide shows you how to read, watch and find your way around your school's app with VoiceOver, Voice Control and larger text.
Use VoiceOver
Turn VoiceOver on in Settings › Accessibility › VoiceOver. Every button, card and tab in C3NTR has a name, so VoiceOver tells you what is on screen and what each control does.
- Swipe right or left to move through a screen. Double-tap to open what is selected.
- Actions that sit behind a swipe or a long press, such as Mark read, Favourite, Edit and Report, are in the Actions rotor. Swipe up or down while a card is selected to hear them, then double-tap to use one.
- Menus, search and the side menu keep VoiceOver inside them while they are open. Scrub two fingers in a Z shape to close them.
- Video controls stay on screen while VoiceOver is on, so play, pause and the playback position are always within reach.
- When you sign in, the code field reads back each digit you enter, and your iPhone can fill in the code from Messages.
Use Voice Control
Turn Voice Control on in Settings › Accessibility › Voice Control. You can then use C3NTR without touching the screen.
- Say “Show names” to see what each control is called. Then say “Tap” and the name, for example “Tap Explore”.
- Say “Show numbers” if a name is long, then say “Tap” and the number.
- To reach actions that sit behind a swipe or a long press, say “Show actions for” and the item's number.
- Dictate into a text field by saying “Type” followed by your words.
If you write articles, dictation in the article editor can be less reliable than in other text fields. We are working on it.
Make text larger
C3NTR follows the text size you choose in Settings › Accessibility › Display & Text Size › Larger Text, up to the largest size.
- Articles, terms and announcements grow fully, so body text stays easy to read.
- Large headings grow a little less, as they do in Apple's own apps, so each page keeps its shape.
- Cards and lists make room for longer titles instead of cutting them short.
- The tab bar and the switches at the top of Explore and Today stay at their usual size so they keep fitting on screen. VoiceOver and Voice Control still read their full names.
Reduce motion
Turn on Settings › Accessibility › Motion › Reduce Motion. C3NTR then skips its animations, such as the favourite heart and the side menu sliding in, and shows the end result straight away.
Light and dark
Each school chooses a light or dark look for its app. If you find one easier to read, let your school leader know. Leaders change it in Branding & theme.
