The editor

The C3NTR editor is where you write and shape your articles. It works inline on the article screen, so you stay close to how your students will read the content.

Open the editor

There are a few ways to start editing an article you have permission to edit:

• Double-tap the body — or the cover image or title — of any article to enter the inline editor.
• Tap the edit button (the pencil) on the article screen.

The editor opens in place. You do not leave the article screen.

Title as first heading

The article title is embedded as the first H1 heading in the document body. There is no separate title field. When you save, C3NTR reads the first line as the title and stores the rest as the article body.

This means you can rename an article by editing the first heading.

Two editing modes

C3NTR offers two ways to write:

• Rich Text — A visual editor where formatting appears as you type. Bold text looks bold, headings look large, and lists are indented. This is the default.
• Markdown — A plain text editor where you write Markdown syntax directly. Useful if you are comfortable with Markdown and prefer a distraction-free view.

Toggle between them from the title dropdown menu. Your preference is saved between sessions, so C3NTR remembers which mode you prefer.

Auto-save

Your work saves automatically every 800 milliseconds as you type. A small "Saved" indicator appears in the top bar and fades after a moment.

You do not need to tap a save button. If you close the app or switch away, your latest changes are already stored.

The floating toolbar

When you are writing, a glass-style formatting toolbar floats above the keyboard. It gives you quick access to bold, italic, headings, lists, and other formatting without leaving the text.

Above the toolbar, a floating tags bar shows the current tags as small pills. Tap the + button to add or remove tags from the article.

Long-press the keyboard-dismiss chevron at the right of the toolbar to open the keyboard-shortcuts cheat sheet — handy when you've paired a hardware keyboard.

Keyboard shortcuts

If you've connected a hardware keyboard (Magic Keyboard, Bluetooth keyboard on iPad), the on-screen toolbar hides and you can format with shortcuts instead. The same combos work on Mac, iPad, and Android keyboards — substitute Ctrl for ⌘ on Android.

• ⌘B / ⌘I / ⌘U / ⌘E — Bold, italic, underline, inline code.
• ⌘⇧X — Strikethrough.
• ⌘K — Insert link (opens the link dialog).
• ⌥⌘1 / ⌥⌘2 / ⌥⌘3 — Heading levels 1, 2, 3. ⌥⌘0 clears the heading.
• ⌘⇧7 / ⌘⇧8 / ⌘⇧9 — Numbered list, bullet list, checklist.
• ⌘\ — Clear inline formatting on the selection.

Selection menu (long-press)

Long-press a word or selection to bring up the system menu. Alongside the usual Cut / Copy / Paste / Select All, you'll see Bold, Italic, Link, and a Format… overflow that lists every formatting option with its keyboard shortcut beside it. The toggle items show "Unbold" or "Italic off" when the selection is already styled, so a quick glance tells you the current state.

Title dropdown menu

Tap the title text and chevron in the top bar to open the title dropdown menu. This menu brings together the most common article settings in one place:

• Mode toggle — Switch between Rich Text and Markdown.
• Published / Draft — Toggle the article between published and draft status.
• Pin — Pin the article so it surfaces on the Home screen.
• Permissions — Set a minimum grade level, restrict to specific roles, or leave it open to everyone. The same Permissions menu appears in the term editor and the video / audio editors so every kind of content has the same controls.
• Cover image — Add or change the article cover image.
• Tags — Manage which tags this article belongs to.
• Undo / Redo — Step back or forward through your changes.
• Delete — Remove the article.

A live word count sits at the bottom of the editor as you scroll, so you can see how long the article is running without opening a menu. In the video and audio editors, this same menu also has a Video file or Audio file option for swapping the underlying recording.

Slash commands

Type / at the start of a new line to open a quick-insert menu. Choose from headings, lists, blockquotes, images, dividers, and code blocks. This is a fast way to add structure without reaching for the toolbar.

Finish editing

Tap the Done button in the top bar to save and exit edit mode. The article returns to its reading view. The bottom navigation bar, which hides during editing to give you more space, reappears.
