Home screen
The home screen is the first thing your members see when they open the app. You can arrange it with widgets to highlight what matters most to your school.
Enter edit mode
To start customising the home screen, long-press on an empty area of the home tab. The widgets will start to wobble, showing you are in edit mode.
Long-pressing directly on a featured article, term, announcement, event, or section card opens a quick-action menu (Open / Favourite / Edit / Delete) instead of entering home builder. To customise the home layout, long-press on the gap between widgets.
While in edit mode you can:
- Drag widgets to reorder them.
- Toggle visibility to show or hide a widget.
- Remove a widget from the layout entirely.
- Configure a widget by tapping its settings icon.
Tap Done to save your changes or Cancel to discard them.
Available widgets
You can add any of the following widgets to your home screen:
- Welcome message — A heading and subheading that greet your members. Set the text in Settings > Home.
- Pinned sections — Show one or more content tags as featured cards. You can enable rotation so a different tag is highlighted each time.
- Featured term — A "Terms ›" header above a card-style module that highlights one glossary term in your school's accent colour. Choose automatic (rotates through terms) or manual (you pick a specific term). Tap the card to read the full term, or tap the heading to jump to the Terms landing.
- Featured article — Spotlight a single article with its cover image.
- Recent articles — A horizontal carousel of image cards, one per recently updated article. Cover images crop the same way as the Pick up cards.
- Pick up where you left off — Shows articles each member has started but not finished, with a thin progress bar and a "X min left" estimate. Appears only when that member has articles in progress. A great alternative to Recent articles for engaged schools.
- Recent terms — A scrollable list of your most recently updated glossary terms.
- Recent videos — A scrollable list of your most recently uploaded videos, with poster frames and runtimes.
- Recent audio — A scrollable list of your most recently uploaded audio items, with runtimes.
- Announcements — Show the latest announcement from the Updates tab.
- Getting Started — A short list to help everyone find their way. School leaders see the school setup steps (including Add some content, which opens a four-card picker for Article, Term, Video, or Audio); members see things to try. The card disappears once everything is done.
Any widget that has no content yet shows a friendly empty state with an action card. Tapping the card jumps you to the right screen to fill it — for example, the "No events in the next 7 days" card lands you on the Today tab, and the "No recent articles" card lands you on Explore.
What a fresh school sees on Home
When you first open a brand-new school, the home screen comes pre-configured with a sensible starting set of widgets: Greeting, Getting Started, Pick up where you left off, Announcements, Recent articles, Featured term, Recent videos, and Recent audio. As your school's content grows you can rearrange, remove, or add widgets to suit how your members use the app.
Members never see empty-state cards for sections that haven't been used yet. "No announcements yet" and "No events in the next N days" are leader-only nudges — they only surface for members if the feature has scheduled content somewhere in the future. Leaders always see the empty card so they remember the feature exists.
Add a new widget
Enter edit mode on the home screen.
Tap the + Add widget button at the bottom of the screen. A gallery sheet opens with all available widget types.
Tap the widget you want to add. It appears at the bottom of your layout. Drag it to the position you want.
Configure a widget
Some widgets have settings you can adjust. For example, pinned sections let you choose which tags to show and how fast they rotate. Featured glossary term lets you pick auto or manual mode.
To configure a widget, tap its gear icon while in edit mode. A sheet opens with the options for that widget.
Set a pinned message
Pinned messages are short notices that show at the top of the home screen — closures, grading reminders, anything time-sensitive. Add the Pinned message widget from the gallery, then tap it (in edit mode) to write the message and choose how long it should stay visible. Anything from one to thirty days. After that, the message hides automatically — admins see a small "expired, refresh or remove" prompt; everyone else just sees nothing in that slot.
Edit your hero heading and subheading directly on the home screen — tap the heading area in edit mode to open the inline editor. There's no separate settings page for it.
